The Essay

You will now write an essay in which you will answer the question: Why were the Scholls at first so excited about Hitler to end up in the resistance?

The essay (1-4 A4 pages) comprises the following components:

Introduction. Tell what's the subject and the main question of your inquiry and what uou have done to answer this question.
Three sections
- a section on 'enthusiasm', in which you give an explanation for the enthusiasm of the Scholl's and the Germans in general (including the charts)
- a section on 'the doubts' of the Scholl family
- a section on 'resistance', in which you explain why the Scholl's became members of the resistance and what they wanted to achieve with that resistance

In the Name of the German People

If a deed of this sort were to be punished otherwise than by death, we would be forging the first links of a chain whose end - in an earlier time - was 1918. Therefore, for the protection of the Volk and the Reich at war, the People's Court has found but one just punishment: death.
